I recently did a large pair of trompe l'oeil paintings of an old recipe book - one of the cover, one of a specific page inside. Because my client could only send me photos, though, it became a sort of craft project, too, as I had to print the photos out and "build" the book out of an old catalog, so I would have a three-dimensional subject to view.
